Initially, it looks as if the murder may be connected to Ramsey's gambling debts, but when a Clerk at the House of Lords is also murdered, events seem to point to a wider conspiracy involving stolen documents. A hanging near Linley's family estate draws Lynley and Havers into the world of horse breeding, and forces Lynley to consider his future: It is with the police or the family business. In their first case subce Gavers was shot, Lynley and Havers investigate the shotgun murders of a young woman. As they unravel the dark secrets of a rural village, Linley worries that the investigation will reopen old wounds for his partner. The discovery of a body frozen inside a meat truck leads lynley and Havers into the world of stuggling immigrants. As Lynley waits to hear about the fate of his marriage to Helen, another woman tries to lure him into an affair. -- container.
